Who is the Audience for This Movie?
People who like movies about teen angst.
What I Liked About This Movie
My biggest compliment to this movie would be that I very much enjoyed the acting from the entire cast. As usual though there are always a few standouts though. The actor playing Charlie (Anton Yelchin) was very charismatic on screen, making him very enjoyable to watch. Of course I cannot forget to mention Robert Downey Jr. who plays the schools principal. Ironically his character motivation is that he is an alcoholic with deep seeded issues. Take that as you will but he puts up a good performance in this movie.

This movie is funny at times and touching at others. Relationships between characters feel genuinely natural, which is good because poor chemistry is usually the downfall of many teen angst comedies.
What Didn’t Work For Me
The biggest complaint I would have is that I felt like I have seen this movie many times before. You know the setup; outcast becomes popular and must deal with his newly acquired popularity. My problem with it feeling very similar to others movies is that from the get go you know how the movie is going to flow, leaving no real surprises.
Charlie Bartlett contains many scenes of minor character development that I felt could be have been left out to make the movie a little smoother. A few of the character interactions also could have been left out to trim down the movie a bit.
Should You Watch This Movie?
Charlie Bartlett is a good coming of age movie (that’s a yes).
