Two bikers (Peter Fonda & Dennis Hopper) score big on a drug deal and start on a journey to Mardi Gras. Along the way they encounter hitchhikers, a drunken lawyer, intolerable town folk and more.
Who is the Audience for This Movie?
People who are big on late 60’s and early 70’s cinema
What I Liked About This Movie
I would have to say my favorite thing about this movie is the fact that the people making/starring in this movie were actually high during filming. This is a known fact and has been openly admitted.
The two leads (Peter Fonda & Dennis Hopper) had good chemistry and played their characters very well. The inclusion of Jack Nicholson was also a good idea because anytime you put Nicholson on camera in his earlier years he was dynamite.

The aesthetics of the bikes and the outfits worn by the Peter Fonda & Dennis Hopper are perfect. It is obvious why they are now iconic characters in American cinema. Easy Rider used a lot popular music to help tell the story and it used it very effectively in a time where it was uncommon to use popular music in that way.
What Didn’t Work For Me
I liked the fact that while filming it was obvious a lot of drugs were done and it lends authenticity to the movie but this same practice should not have carried over to the editing room. Transitions between scenes are awful and some of the montages including the drug induced montage just feel off.
The movie preaches about how America has changed but the movie wants you to believe the true America should be about doing and selling drugs. I did not feel sorry for anything that happens to the two main characters because they were drug sellers. Everything about Easy Rider is so loose and care free that no real connection can be made with the characters.
Should You Watch This Movie?
I personally did not like Easy Rider but it did make an impact on American cinema, you could watch it for that reason.
