Batman: Gotham Knight Review

Gotham Knight is a direct-to-DVD animated movie compromised of six short interconnected stories. Gotham Knight bridges the gap between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

Who is the Audience for This Movie?

Fans of anime styled animation.

What I Liked About This Movie

I liked the idea of mashing together multiple art styles because it allows for different interpretations of what Batman looks like. I expected the switch in art styles to be accompanied by a mish mash of unconnected stories but the continuity between the sections is nice. Being a huge fan of Batman The Animated Series, anything animated with Batman in it is a welcome watch for me

What Didn’t Work For Me

The first section of this movie has already been done before, albeit slightly different, in Batman The Animated Series. The issue with that is that it was done very well already. When comparing the Gotham Knight version to it, the Gotham Knight version just does not stack up.

Anime art styles used in this movie were not attractive to me and considering sections were done by numerous people the styles don’t vary enough to make the experience wholly unique. Maybe I was expecting a different movie but I have always felt that the anime art style lacks emotional depth. Anime fans do not take that as a slant, anime is just not my cup of tea.

Should You Watch This Movie?

ONLY if you really like anime would I recommend this movie.
