People who like period pieces with a twist.
What I Liked About This Movie
I remember seeing bits and pieces of this movie on TV when I was younger so I decided it was time to finally give it a real viewing. I was pleasantly surprised at how well they nailed the aesthetic look of the 17th century. The costumes/makeup manage to look very believable. The actors also look comfortable playing their roles; everything seemed to click for me from a visual standpoint. Audio wise this movie is no slouch either. Classical music used manages to successfully convey every scenes mood by adding extra oomph to the happenings on screen.
This is not your typical vampire movie. If you are expecting stakes through hearts and cloves of garlic protecting protagonists you will be highly disappointed. Interview with a Vampire focuses on the relationships between vampires. Some may find this movie boring but I was fascinated by the route the story took. I actually wished for more stories, which says a lot considering I often have issues with a movies story.

The last thing I feel I should note is that at one point in this movie a young Kirsten Dunst upstages Tom Cruise. Watching a young actor upstage a seasoned actor is always fascinating to me.
What Didn’t Work For Me
Who thought Antonio Banderas would make a good vampire? His voice cannot sell a serious character like the one he is supposed to play in this movie. For some strange reason the directors saw it fit to put some non-hetero subtext in this movie. I got nothing against homosexuals but it comes out of nowhere and felt creepy in the few scenes it appears.
WHY DID THEY HAVE TO KILL THE ENDING!! Why is it that so few movies know how to end? The ending to this movie pretty much pours gasoline on the rest of the movie and laughs at it in an evil voice while it burns.
Should You Watch This Movie?
If you are looking for a vampire movie with a lot of horror elements I would not watch this movie. However, if you are looking for a vampire movie that approaches the vampire genre from a different angle I would give it a watch.
