Maxed Out Review

Maxed out is a documentary that takes a look at the modern era of credit lending. People who have lending problems, analysts and people in the lending industry are interviewed to paint a better picture of why the poor are getting poorer and the rich keep getting richer.

Who is the Audience for This Movie?

I would say people who like looking deeper into economic issues.

What I Liked About This Movie

The fact that the filmmakers decided to delve into this prevalent issue is admirable. The people they chose to interview were interesting and provided some good information. I was really intrigued with the beginning of this documentary; it laid the foundation for a strong warning against getting yourself stuck in credit card debt.

As I designer I feel I need to commend whoever did their DVD artwork because it is very effective.

What Didn’t Work For Me

Somewhere along the way I feel they lost their direction for this movie and about mid way through you can tell the people who made this movie began going more for as much emotion as possible.

In many documentaries that is a very smart direction to take but not so when your documentary is supposed to be looking deep into the issue of credit card debt. Giving a large chunk of your screen time to examples of people who have gone down the wrong path really does not dig very deep into the issue. It just exploits the situation of those people for the purpose of sympathy.

Should You Watch This Movie?

It was passable but not anything you should go out of your way to see.
