Who is the Audience for This Movie?
People who like a little heart with their comedy.
What I Liked About This Movie
Like most people my age I watched the man show when it was on the air. I found Adam Carolla funny then and I still find him funny today. His comedic delivery is not for everyone but I found myself laughing at most of his comedy in this movie. This movie happens to be very charming. A few times I had that half smile you get when watch a character achieve something or do something that feels “Neat”.
I am not in any way a fan of lovey duvy movies but The Hammer weaves a decent little love story in with the comedy. The connection between Carolla and his love interest does not feel too forced, it just works.
What Didn’t Work For Me
The Hammer is a low budget movie that looks like a low budget movie. It is not shot very interestingly or unique. Having no interesting visual appeal leaves many parts of this movie very boring looking and the boxing scenes end up suffering the most. Boxing scenes just did not impact me as much as I was expecting them too.

Story in this movie is interesting but it has its shaky moments. The beginning had me worried it would be very hit or miss with its comedy. Montages seem to happen a little too often and while pure awesome in the 80’s should be done in moderation. Lastly, the story structure is too easy to telegraph.
Should You Watch This Movie?
It’s a decent rental.
