A young man who is disappointed with his life gets the chance to enter the competitive world of bagging groceries. Yes, that really is the plot.
Who is the Audience for This Movie?
People who like strange comedies.
What I Liked About This Movie
I will give credit to the makers of the movie for attempting to make a mock sport comedy. Using grocery bagging as the focus of the movie was a strange choice and I would really like to know how they came up with the concept. A few of the scenes do deliver some laughs mainly due the fact that Dennis Farina (Snatch, Get Shorty) is in them.
What Didn’t Work For Me
National Lampoon at one point in movie history could do no wrong. They managed to have a string of comedic hits which included: Animal House, Christmas Vacation, & Loaded Weapon 1. But after those movies the quality started to decrease to the point that a terrible movie like Bag Boy even manages to have the National Lampoons stamp on it.
Why did I bother renting this movie then? I firmly believe in giving any movie that is not a sequel to movie I did not like a chance. So I guess it is no fault but my own that I sat through this terribly unfunny predictable movie. The ending is predictably anti climatic and just leaves you with the feeling that you just wasted money on a rental (or if you really got fleeced a purchase). I also would like to know who thought it was funny to have a mentally handicapped character to bounce jokes off.
