Who is the Audience for This Movie?
Fans of b-movies.
What I Liked About This Movie
Doomsday is directed by Neil Marshall (Dog Soldiers, The Descent) who happens to know how to use gore in his movies very well which is good because there is a lot of it in this movie. I was expecting a no holds barred action movie with some amazing visuals and that is exactly what this movie delivers. Shot with perfect precision this movie was a stellar to watch in HD.

The anchor to this movie is that it’s a b-movie that knows that it’s a b-movie. Moments that begin to get too serious are broken up either by violence or by corny jokes. I like these types of movies because you do not really have to think too much.
What Didn’t Work For Me
I had high expectations for this movie since I really liked Neil Marshall’s last two films. Having high hopes for this movie I found it in general very disappointing. I would liken it to a beautiful looking disaster. Doomsday’s quite openly rips off the following movies: Escape from New York, The Road Warrior, Gladiator, & Resident Evil. Referencing movies is cool but building an entire movie by copying scene structures from other movies is another story.
Opening with a voice over by Malcolm McDowell was a strange choice because he does not appear until way later in the movie. When he does appear his section ends fairly briefly and he is never seen again for the rest of the movie. Section in question is also so jarringly different from the rest of the movie I did not know what to think of it.
Should You Watch This Movie?
All in all it is a movie that will truly ONLY entertain if watching with other people because you are less likely to pick at its issues.
