What I Liked About This Movie

I remember seeing this movie in theaters and walking out of it feeling cheated. Giving it a re-watch was always the last thing on my mind but I must have been in a good mood when I decided I should give this movie another shot. Mine as well say it now, this movie is still disappointing but it does have some good in it.

Red Planet Photo

The movie spends just the right amount of time setting the story and characters up. Once the eventual disaster that every sci-fi movie has happens I was digging the movie. The color scheme when on the planet Mars looks fantastic; so do the special effects throughout the movie. After the opening I was questioning why I had been so disappointed with this movie when I saw it in theaters.

What Didn’t Work For Me

I do not know how I forgot the rest of the plot after the landing on Mars but wow the movie just falters greatly when it reaches its destination. Sentimental character interactions quickly become introduced. Which I guess means the makers of the movie felt the need for viewer to care more about the characters. Personally I had more care for the characters before it is forced down your throat. To make matters worse a series of twists are added that drastically change the films tone and set it up for mediocrity. As you would expect members of the team do die but all of the deaths seem to happen very fast and awkwardly.

Should You Watch This Movie?

Don’t bother.
