Wannabe comic Rupert Pupkin (Robert De Niro) along with a crazy woman named Masha (Sandra Bernhard) stalk the late night talk show host Jerry Langford (Jerry Lewis).
Who is the Audience for This Movie?
Fans of movies that show the ugly side of celebrity obsession.
What I Liked About This Movie
Structurally this movie is a mix between real life and the fantasy life Rupert wishes he had. Unlike many movies that use this ploy, both aspects of Rupert’s life are equally as interesting to watch. In real life he is an autograph chaser who wishes he was a famous comedian in his dream world he is the best comic on the planet who even has the legendary Jerry Langford giving him accolades.

This movie somehow falls under everyone’s radar which is a shame because its message resonates stronger now then when it was made. Martin Scorsese crafted the perfect satire of celebrity infatuation. The movies message is never exploited or unbelievable because the mood continually stays at a realistic level with a great cast to back it up.
What Didn’t Work For Me
At a plot point climax near the finale Langford is alone with Masha and an incident happens that is kind of weak. Although I cannot be too harsh on it since it does end up with Sandra Bernhard getting slapped.
Should You Watch This Movie?
I did not have any expectations which lead to me being pleasantly treated to one of the best movies I have seen that deals with peoples celebrity infatuations.
