Who is the Audience for This Movie?

What I Liked About This Movie

First and foremost this movie is funny. There are quite a few laugh-out-loud moments that either come from snappy dialogue or balls out (not literally) physical gags. Justin Long makes a cameo as a gay porn star. Surprisingly, Kenny Hotz (Kenny VS Spenny) also appears in a few short scenes. Both cameos delivered solid laughs.

During the numerous dialogue exchanges between Zack and Miri they often say things to each other you do not often hear said between a man and women in a movie. It is a nice to see a male character tell the female character exactly what is on his mind without holding back.

Considering the entire premise centers around the two main characters making a porno the sexual content is quite tame. It is all done in a playful enough way that is not really titillating. It ends up coming off quite comedic instead. When the movie does start moving into its sentimental territory there are enough jokes still mixed in during those times to keep it from getting all sappy.

What Didn’t Work For Me

As I mentioned in my Forgetting Sarah Marshall review I do not like the current trend of inserting very current pop culture references in movies. In the case of Zack and Miri they have a quick scene referencing the show “Lost”. The only real critique I have about the movie is that at times it feels very clipped together. There are quite a few scenes that do not flow into each other very smoothly.

Should You Watch This Movie?

Zack & Miri delivered on every aspect I hoped it would.
