Who is the Audience for This Movie?

Fans of movies about aliens (obviously).

What I Liked About This Movie

Before reading this review I recommended you read my Alien review. Many of the good points I noted in that review are relevant to this movie.

What would you do if you ran a movie studio that had a classic movie in your catalog? I am going to guess the one thing you would not do is sequelize it and not only use a different director (James Cameron) but change the style up considerably. This is why at the time of its release Aliens was a bold move by Fox. Fortunately for Fox today it is considered by many the best sequel of all time.

Aliens Photo

Aliens picks up right after the events of Alien which is nice because Ripley (the main character) has already made her transformation from meek to bad ass and no time needs to be wasted on building her character. As far as characters go there is a nice mish mash of personalities that are varied enough to make you at least care a bit about them. To give the proceedings a bit more emotional weight an abandoned girl type character has also been added this time around.

Much like the original a lot of time is spent on the build up in order to make the pay off feel a lot more satisfying. If you felt the only thing missing in the original were more aliens then there is no possible way you will be disappointed with this movie. Both the alien count and firepower have been severely upped making the movie more of an action fest with thriller elements. To top of the perfect pacing and tone is a final showdown that is incredibly cool.

What Didn’t Work For Me

Nothing.

Should You Watch This Movie?

Aliens is one of the most entertaining science fiction movies ever made.
