Who is the Audience for This Movie?

People who like hitman movies.

What I Liked About This Movie

Bangkok dangerous was shot in Bangkok (obviously) and boy does it ever look grimy. The cities grungy look fits fairly well with the tone of the movie which could be taken as either a compliment to the directors for choosing the location or a slight to the city for looking really sleazy. As per my mental contract with my brain anything that stars Nicholas Cage I must watch once. He is rarely any good I just seem to find that even if the movie is horrible he is always entertaining (for better or worse).

What Didn’t Work For Me

Whose idea was it to give him the god-awful wig he sports in the movie? it looks like at some point it will jump off his head and attack someone. It almost deserves its own spot somewhere in the credits. The story structure is terribly boring; shortly after the first few scenes you can already guess what is eventually going to happen. He falls in love with a woman who is unable to speak and trains a local thief to be an assassin. Both coming right after he states to the audience via voiceover that both of these things are against his own assassin guidelines. That means that there are both training montages and uncomfortable dating scenes. This bland story had me bored throughout the movie. Not even the little bits of action mixed raised my excitement level. By the time it reaches the weak conclusion I was left highly unexcited and unsatisfied with what I had just watched.

What I do not get is why the Pang Brothers chose to remake this movie for an American audience. They made it like 9 years before making this one and should have just left it be.

Should You Watch This Movie?
