Vietnam War veteran Travis Bickle (Robert De Niro) is an unstable New York taxi driver who feels mentally crushed by the state of his city. In an attempt to try and clean his city up he feels he must save a 12 year old girl named Iris (Jodie Foster) from her pimp (Harvey Keitel).
Who is the Audience for This Movie?
Fans of movies set in New York.
What I Liked About This Movie
Martin Scorsese has made quite a few movies that I find fascinating and Taxi Driver is one of them. Re-teaming with both De Niro and Harvey Keitel again was definitely a smart choice. Both actors put up great performances but De Niro shines a bit brighter. His characters progression (or regression depending on how you look at it) is both eerie and captivating. He even delivers one of the most recognizable lines in all of cinema “You talking to me?”.

As odd as this might be to say a 14 year old Jodie Foster manages to hold her own against the two powerhouse actors with her shocking portrayal of a 12 year old prostitute. I am not into ruining important parts of movies for people so I will just say there is one scene involving her and De Niro that you need to see. After viewing it you can easily make the assumption that as a whole the medium of cinema has become quite tame when it comes to scenes of a sexual nature.
If I watched this movie back when it was released I would definitely have no urge to ever go to New York. It is quite obvious it was the director’s intention to make it look grungy because every shot of the city makes it look like complete crap. The vibe given off by the setting helps continually set the dark tone of the movie. Near the end the ominous feelings given off by both the setting and characters reach their boiling point in a shockingly violent confrontation that caps off the movie quite well.
What Didn’t Work For Me

Should You Watch This Movie?
