Against The Dark Review

After a horrible virus outbreak a group of survivors attempt to flee a hospital so they can make it to a virus free zone. During their escape they inadvertently gain the help of an elite unit headed by a commander named Tao (Steven Seagal).

Who is the Audience for This Movie?

Fans of zombie movies.

What I Liked About This Movie

Nothing whatsoever.

What Didn’t Work For Me

Starting off my list of complaints would be the fact that whoever created this movie somehow could not make up their mind if they wanted to make a zombie or a vampire movie so instead of being one or the other the living dead in this movie are “zompires” for lack of a better term. With that said the characteristics that set the two undead creatures apart are mixed together horribly in this movie.

Against The Dark Photo

After realizing the antagonists had absolutely no clearly defined characteristics I began noticing that nothing in the plot is particularly unique. It seems as though it is a cheap knock off of so many good horror movies released in the last few decades. If you were so inclined you could clearly point out everything they have lifted from much better movies. Aesthetically it’s incredibly dark and the setting feels underused. They really should have spent more time on the lighting.

Adding to all that is the fact that Steven Seagal has barely any screen time. The only reason I even decided to watch this piece of crap was because thought it would be as hilariously bad as most of Steven Seagal’s movies are. I enjoy watching some of his older movies because I can turn off my brain and take them for what they are but its disheartening when he slaps his face all over a movie that he is barely in.

Should You Watch This Movie?

I feel kind of ashamed that I even spent money to rent it.
