Tightrope walker Phillipe Petit performed what many consider the artistic crime of the century by walking across a wire attached to the New York City’s Twin Towers. This movie takes a look at both the event and his life.
Who is the Audience for This Movie?
People who like documentaries that give background information on a memorable event.
What I Liked About This Movie
At first I was skeptical about Man on Wire being effective since a tight rope walk across the twin towers seems like it would not have enough depth to warrant a normal running time. Thankfully the speakers in the movie have an incredible amount interesting stories to tell. Learning about how it was actually done and having the pieces slowly put together lead to a very fun viewing. To make it more interesting a mix of old footage and re- enactments are scattered throughout the movie. The mixing of footage was done incredibly well.

To pad the time a bit the movie takes a look at Petit’s life to explain why he was so passionate about doing the walk between the towers. What I did not know before watching the movie is that he had done walks like it before and they are almost as cool as the tower walk. Petit is not a trained actor but he is really good on camera. His passion is on display all the time. He also happens to be a very theatrical person.
What Didn’t Work For Me
After learning all about the people around Phillipe during his escapades there is very little closure to their relationship with him. It is briefly touched on in the last few minutes but it was built up so effectively I felt sort of cheated.
Should You Watch This Movie?
I found it very enjoyable.
