DEA agent Max Payne’s (Mark Wahlberg) family is murdered and he is determined to do anything in his power to find out who is responsible.
Who is the Audience for This Movie?
Fans of the video game the movie is based on.
What I Liked About This Movie
With a visual style already set in the game it is nice that they kept it roughly the same. It’s dark and depressing but it fits the tone of the movie perfectly. When Max goes into guns blazing mode the movie hits all the right notes.
What Didn’t Work For Me
Once again my hopes for a good video game movie have been crushed. Every person they cast for this movie looks horribly out of place. The worst culprit is Mark Wahlberg. Max Payne needs to look like he is ready for war not look like he is seriously confused all the time. Beyond the main character seeing Ludacris playing an internal affairs agent brought about a few laughs from the people I was watching the movie with. No use in going over the rest of the cast you get the picture.

I cannot say going into watching the movie that I was psyched about it but I did hope that there would be a lot of action. Boy was I setting myself up for a huge letdown. Max Payne is pretty much 70 minutes of boring with a handful of action scenes sprinkled in. It boggles my mind they did not lift more elements from the game. If they had made a balls to the wall action movie I would have been supremely happy. Considering the style in which the movie was shot it would have had potential to be pretty good.
Should You Watch This Movie?
Max Payne was horribly disappointing to watch because I really liked the game and it could have made a fantastic movie.
