What I Liked About This Movie
Hoop Dreams is a documentary that one could argue rivals some of the greatest movies ever made. Many people write off documentaries as talking head fests but until you have seen Hoop Dreams I would hold off on that generic classification. It has an abundance of heart, tension and twists that if written into a movie would be scoffed at for being too unrealistic. In short, it is the movie Hollywood wished they could pull off with actors.

The movie was shot over many years and the dedication of the creators is apparent in every frame. You can tell they really care about what happens in both the lives of the boys and the lives of their family members. With nearly a three hour running time there is a lot covered during the lengthy running time yet it never drags. When the screen faded to credits I actually wanted to continue following the lives of everyone in the movie.
Hoop Dreams is first documentary I would call “epic” even though I am not a fan of using the word in a movie review.
What Didn’t Work For Me
I cannot really think of anything that bothered me about it.
Should You Watch This Movie?
