My Name is Bruce Review

A rabid fan kidnaps Bruce Campbell to help his town fight a demon.

Who is the Audience for This Movie?

Fans of Bruce Campbell.

What I Liked About This Movie

Near the beginning there are a few scenes where Bruce is shooting a sequel to a fake movie that mocks the laughable aspects of low budget horror movies. You see crew members in the shot, it has poor special effects, and awful acting. It was really clever.

What Didn’t Work For Me

I am what you would call a fan of Bruce Campbell mainly because I absolutely love the evil dead movies. With that said I did not enjoy My Name is Bruce.

When an actor appears in a movie mocking there on screen personas you really need to handle the humor and referencing perfectly. Anyone watching this movie with no knowledge of Bruce Campbell’s career will find absolutely no value in many of the jokes. For those who actually get the references you will find that they are handled quite poorly. This is mostly due to the flat direction (Campbell directed himself). It seems quite comfortable with being a “b-movie” but it tries way too hard to achieve that label. At max I laughed about 3 times. Ted Raimi also plays numerous characters in the movie even though he is not what you would call a good actor.

Should You Watch This Movie?

Only the die-hard fans will enjoy this movie.
