Chev Chelios (Jason Statham) miraculously survived the events of the first crank. Unfortunately for him though his heart has been replaced with a battery. Chelios must continue to keep it charged until he can retrieve his heart and have it put back in.
Who is the Audience for This Movie?
Fans of movies that are light on story and loaded with action.
What I Liked About This Movie
I happen to like pure action movies and the first Crank was a nice treat when it came out. It’s most notable aspect was its visual style. The fast cut high contrasted style is more charged up this time around.
What Didn’t Work For Me
High Voltage is quite easily the worst sequel I have seen in a long time. From the on-set it reeks of epic failure. The movie picks up right where the first movie left off. After falling out of a plane Chelios is scraped off the pavement to have his heart harvested. Originally going into the movie I had no problem with the highly improbable jump off point.

What comes almost immediately after it though is asinine. Instead of a clearly defined plotline like the one provided in the first movie you are treated to a bunch of smashed together scenes of violence that eventually become incredibly tiresome. I went with a few friends to see it after a few drinks and the one person who wanted to see it the most ended up falling asleep. Before the movie he said there was no way you could be bored watching a movie like Crank. By the time the end is reached you are so numbed by the ridiculousness that the overblown ending feels like a bullet to the head of your patience. I am all for non serious action movies but I do have a threshold and this movie managed to far exceed it. Intentionally amping up a proven formula does not always make the end product better.
Should You Watch This Movie?
If you are the type of person who looks at car crash and is fascinated by it then by all means go for it.
