The X Files: I Want to Believe Review

A former priest claims to have psychic visions that could help with the case of a kidnapped FBI agent. Two former FBI agents (David Duchovny & Gillian Anderson) are brought in to help with the investigation.

Who is the Audience for This Movie?

People who like movies about paranormal activities.

What I Liked About This Movie

Back in the 90’s if you were a sci-fi geek (I was more of a horror fan myself) then you most likely watched X-files at some point in its 10 season run. I remember my step dad used to really like the show so for that reason alone I decided to watch this movie. However, after finishing it the only thing that came to mind when trying to think of something good to say about it was that it was very well shot.

What Didn’t Work For Me

Nothing against fans of the show but was anyone else patiently waiting for a second X-Files movie? Even though I did enjoy the first one it was released 11 years ago. Talk about missing the boat they also managed to miss the next 10 after it.

But you are probably wondering specifically why I did not enjoy the movie. Well for starters the story is very uninteresting. The episodes of the show I actually watched often had interesting plots but by the time you reach the ending to this movie the plot had been sidetracked so many times that it did not matter if they revealed something cool or not. The reveal at the end is not nearly as climactic as you would hope it would be so that probably did not help either.

Mulder and Scully (the two former FBI agents) have quite a past together and if you do not know much about the characters their relationship in this movie will make very little sense to you. Since it was developed so heavily on the show I think the creators of the movie made the lofty assumption you know everything about them. Lastly, why is Xzibit playing an FBI agent? I know he is trying to break into the acting scene but at least pick a role that people won’t find hilariously out of character.

Should You Watch This Movie?

Anyone who did not follow the show will not find much to like about this movie.

  1. I saw the film and since I watched the show i enjoyed it. It wasn’t as good as i had hoped it would be but it still kept my interest. David Duchovny was not given much to work with at all. Scully got on my nerves. First she asks him to take the case and then she gives him a hard time. I enjoyed Duchovny more then I did Anderson. I gave it a 5 out of 10.

  2. ^^Interesting.

  3. …too bad it’s out of 13 and not 10, Sally.
