Yes Man Review

After attending a seminar that encourages its participants to say yes to everything Carl Allen (Jim Carrey) begins saying yes to anything anyone asks him.

Who is the Audience for This Movie?

Fans of slapstick comedy.

What I Liked About This Movie

Even though the premise is dumb I still found myself enjoying Yes Man a lot. Carrey has had some rough spots over the years and even tried going the dramatic route. Some of his dramatic choices paid off (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) but his last comeback to comedy (Fun with Dick & Jane) was a flop. Yes Man easily cleans the slate and proves that Carrey has always been a fantastic comedian when given material he can dig into. I did not expect to laugh a lot in this movie because the trailers did not really do it for me but I found myself laughing during a large majority of the scenes.

It felt like old times when I would watch the hell out of Dumb & Dumber.

What Didn’t Work For Me

Have you seen a little Jim Carrey movie called Liar Liar? If so, then you have seen this movie before. Instead of not being able to lie he is not allowed to say no. It was either lazy writing or a genius move to get Jim Carrey back in the comedic spotlight. One change I did not like that makes it different then Liar Liar is the roughly sewn together feel it has. For the most part it feels like a bunch of funny scenes loosely attached to each other.

Should You Watch This Movie?

Any movie that has Jim Carrey on his comedy game is worth watching.
