What I Liked About This Movie
Vampire movies much like zombie movies are always aplenty in the horror genre. Since that is the case every movie in the vampire genre is forced to have at least one unique element that sets it apart from the others. 30 Days of Night happens to have two uncommon aspects. The first thing you will notice when the vampires appear is their speed. They move incredibly fast making any moment they are on screen just a tad more visceral. Since the movie is based off of a graphic novel at many intervals it stylistically looks like something you would expect too see in a very darkly themed graphic novel. For me the high point of the style was the overhead tracking shot that pans across the whole town while everyone is being attacked. There is so much detail in the shot you almost need to rewind it to take in all the action that happens in it.
What Didn’t Work For Me
30 days of night has a litany of plot holes that completely ruined the movie for me. I will list below the ones that I can without ruining the movie for you.

- At the beginning of the movie they find a stash of satellite phones burnt to a crisp. How did someone sneakily steal everyone’s phone?
- Why is that when everyone else went outside they got brutally murdered yet the surviving group of people have only a few problems getting from place to place.
- When the survivors are hiding in some of the buildings the vampires do not even come by. If they were out for food wouldn’t the vampires be breaking down every door and window?
Major plot holes aside, there is still a major problem with the movie. Josh Hartnett is the lead. What that means is that since he is the lead character he has to have a love interest and the major turning point at the end of the movie centers heavily around it. All of the semi-realistic aspects of the movie are tossed out the window for an overly sappy laughably bad conclusion.
Should You Watch This Movie?
Nah.
