Who is the Audience for This Movie?
Fans of movies based off of comic books or graphic novels.
What I Liked About This Movie
I will be honest I had never heard of Frank Miller before his graphic novels began being made into movies. But after watching both Sin City and 300 it is obvious that his movies all have a somewhat similar style. Unlike most creators though for all I care he could keep using the same style and I would at least give them a watch. I happen to like deeply shadowed movies that utilize silhouettes whenever possible; they always strike me as homage’s to the days of black and white cinema. Since it is an action movie the visuals also include a lot of heavy chested chicks and plenty of violence which is always nice.
What Didn’t Work For Me
You would think that with such a calculated look to the visuals they would put as much effort into making the movie enjoyable but you would be wrong. Have you ever seen a movie that tries to be funny in the tongue in cheek type of way but misses the mark? Well if you haven’t then watch The Spirit just for the experience of what not laughing at a constant barrage of corny jokes is like.

Adding to the failure at humor is the strange plotting. Numerous elements are introduced yet never explained and if taken out would not have any effect on the conclusion of the movie. This leads me to my next point; pacing. Gosh is this movie ever slow I began to really bore me. If it weren’t for the pretty visuals I would have been tempted to just stop watching it. The constant barrage of over the top acting by all of the actors becomes very grating also. Even Samuel L. Jackson’s b-movie acting becomes unwelcome after a while.
Should You Watch This Movie?
NOOOOOOOOOO.
