What I Liked About This Movie
Bambi is a beautiful looking movie. I love photos and videos of nature so I am naturally drawn to anything that romanticizes natural settings. There are so many beautifully drawn backgrounds in Bambi and the use of foreground objects is visually pleasing. At times I almost started focusing more on the wonderfully hand drawn settings but the story structure in this movie is rock solid.

The movie starts with Bambi being born and ends with Bambi having a child of his own. All of the life struggles and good moments Bambi endures are gone through in between that time. This includes: death, learning to make friends, basic survival, love, and confrontation. The parallels between what Bambi goes through and what humans go through are quite obvious; I think that is what makes the movie so effective. Everything that happens to Bambi you can relate to moments of your life.
Bambi is not the lone standout character. Thumper (rabbit) is introduced very early on and he happens to be my favorite character of the movie. It is probably the name that always made me like character so much. The fact that he crazily thumps his left foot all the time was just an added bonus.
What Didn’t Work For Me
When I was younger the scene in which Bambi’s mother dies was incredibly traumatic. Everything leading up to it is all warm and fuzzy then BAM!! The scene just hits you. This is not really a complaint but I am sure my mom did not appreciate having to come up with an answer for the question every kid had after seeing Bambi “Why did humans kill Bambi’s mother?”.
Should You Watch This Movie?
Yes you should.
