Bolt Review

Bolt (John Travolta), the star of a fictional TV show, believes he is actually a superhero and inadvertently ends going on an adventure to save his fictional master (Miley Cyrus).

Who is the Audience for This Movie?

Kids/Adults who like animated movies with animals.

What I Liked About This Movie

Bolt once again proves that dogs own (cat character in movie even admits it). As a dog person I really wanted to see Bolt because I thought Bolt (the dog) looked kick ass. When the movie starts he literally does. The opening scene is a lengthy action fest that both embraces and parodies major action movies. It is nice that right of the bat you get introduced to the character in a very gaudy way; as soon as the opening scene is done reality sets in and you are shown that Bolt is actually just a regular dog cleanly setting up the movies premise.

The adventure Bolt sets on is both fun and exciting. Bolt does not go on the adventure alone, he captures a cat and a fan of his (who happens to be a hamster) willingly joins him on his journey. Both of the supporting characters are solid and end up forming the emotional core of the movie. Once Bolt realizes he has no super powers the cat teaches him what normal dogs do. This entire section of the movie is really cute (hate using that word but it is the only one that fits). In fact, all of the emotional moments hit all the right notes. Bolt does have its fair share of action too and the ending will please people of all ages.

After hearing John Travolta voice Bolt I am amazed that it took this long for him to decide to voice a leading animated character.

What Didn’t Work For Me

Nothing.

Should You Watch This Movie?

If I was a kid who liked dogs I would watch this movie over and over again. Much like I did with The Land Before Time.
