A few uber Star Wars fans travel to Skywalker Ranch to try and steal a copy of Episode 1: The Phantom Menace before it is released in theaters.
Who is the Audience for This Movie?
Fans of Star Wars.
What I Liked About This Movie
So I guess being a geek is finally the new “thing”. Comedies have come a long way since revenge of the nerds and have now reached a new geeky high with Fanboys. Considering the large number of cameos from celebrities it seems that geek movies have finally become mainstream. As a geek (not to be confused with “nerd”) I think it is kind of cool to see an entire movie dedicated to people who have a passion for Star Wars.

The Star Wars fans out there will not be able to complain that there are not enough references to their beloved series. Even people who do not have every factoid memorized will be able to catch a large amount of the references. Crisp references were to be expected but the addition of a sub-plot that involves one of the fans health really gives the movie a solid emotional base that (for once) adds depth without feeling like it was tacked on. The inclusion of a Star Wars vs Star Trek sub plot should please fans also. My favorite moment has to be the final scene because the Star Wars prequel hater’s will find it very fitting.
What Didn’t Work For Me
While watching Fanboys, not once did I laugh out loud. That’s not to say it fails at being entertaining its just that all the comedy felt like it was a bit too clever. I did smirk a lot though. At times it also felt slightly unfocused a slew of different situations jumble up the plot making it feel a bit crowded.
Should You Watch This Movie?
It’s decent entertainment.
