What I Liked About This Movie

To be perfectly honest after viewing the trailers for this movie I got the feeling that Frost/Nixon would be very boring. Thankfully I was very wrong. The two things that really keep it from getting boring are the stellar performances and the execution of all chaos that was going on behind the scenes.

Nixon has mostly been portrayed in comedic ways (at his expense) over the years and since I was not even born when he was president that is mostly the only exposure I have to him. Seeing him portrayed dramatically is an interesting experience and the actor (Frank Langella) who plays him really gets across the vibe that there was a lot more to the man then he let on publicly. The actor who plays Frost is just as good too. At times he is cocky at other times you can tell that even with his large ego he was not totally prepared for what he set in motion. Watching the two play off of each other is a lot more exciting then it sounds like it would be.

Everything that happens to the two main characters both during the interviews and behind the scenes always kept me interested. Nixon is composed and seemingly unafraid of what he might say while at the same time Frost is trying his hardest to ensure that all goes well because his entire career is on the line. The high point for me is the scene in which Nixon drunk dials Frost. What makes it all the more fascinating is that it actually happened.

What Didn’t Work For Me

This may seem like a small nitpick but scattered throughout the movie are documentary style interviews with the actors in character. As a viewer we are watching a re-telling of the events with actors and seeing moments that would have been impossible to have cameras present so how could it also be a documentary. The more I kept thinking about it the less it made sense.

Should You Watch This Movie?

Frost/Nixon was really entertaining I would definitely recommend it.
