Arctic tale follows the life of a polar bear and a walrus.

Who is the Audience for This Movie?

People who like nature documentaries.

What I Liked About This Movie

At times the movie is fairly “cute”.

What Didn’t Work For Me

From the start I had the feeling Arctic Tale was going to be disappointing. Queen Latifah does the voice over for the movie and I may be biased but rarely is a women better then a man at doing voice-over’s for nature footage. Queen Latifah genuinely sounds like she is into the material she is given to read I just find that when a man does nature narration it always sounds better. There is a reason that most of the nature documentaries made are narrated by strongly voiced British males.

Arctic Tale Photo

What I found really strange about Arctic Tale is that it is highly aimed towards kids. It even has a few scenes where fart noises are intentionally inserted when showing groups of walruses. The story that is woven from the footage they got kept feeling way too manufactured for me. I do not watch nature documentaries for a compelling story I watch them to learn the ins and outs of our world. Throughout much of the movie you are constantly banged over the head with a heavy handed environmental message that reaches its peak during the credits. After the movie ends they have a bunch of little kids tell you to be mindful of our environment; why did they feel the need to dumb it down even more by having kids spell it out for you?

Should You Watch This Movie?

Instead of watching Arctic Tale I would just watch a nature channel.
