Who is the Audience for This Movie?
People who like stop motion animation.
What I Liked About This Movie
When the movie started I really liked the opening credits sequence aesthetic look what made it even more impressive is a reveal later in the movie that ties it perfectly to an important aspect of the movie. It’s not something you would normally think about until a second viewing but for the astute viewer it’s a nice bonus.

While watching Coraline every moment you can tell there was an incredible amount of effort to ensure that each scene was as detailed and interesting as it could possibly be. Coraline see’s her world as drab so as viewer we do too. Once she enters the alternate world everything seems so much better and the picture really pops off your screen (quite literally if you are watching it in 3-D). As soon as she begins to realize not all is as it seems the movie starts feeling very much like having a bad dream then waking up to see life is actually better then you think it is. The realizations are touching and the story plays out smoothly in its own twisted way.
What Didn’t Work For Me
I am unsure why much of the promotion was aimed towards kids. Coraline is really creepy movie once it gets going and if I were a young child it would have no doubt scared me. There is one scene that involves a large breasted nearly naked old women in particular that would have left bad images in my head.
Should You Watch This Movie?
Definitely.
