Ghost Town Review

After receiving surgery a grumpy dentist (Ricky Gervais) finds out he died for a few minutes and can now see ghosts. One of the many ghosts he now sees (Greg Kinnear) continues to bother him until he will do a favor for him.

Who is the Audience for This Movie?

Fans of romantic comedies.

What I Liked About This Movie

The ONLY reason I decided to watch Ghost Town was because Ricky Gervais (The Office, Extras) stars in it. His comedic delivery is incredibly dry with lots of awkward pauses following all of his punch lines. For most of the movie he is a complete ass to everyone around him. You will either find him hilarious or will not get why he is funny at all. Ghost Town fully embraces the British style of humor.

Ghost Town Photo

To be honest I was not looking forward to the romantic aspect of this romantic comedy. From the trailers it looked like it was going to be one you could telegraph from the start. When it started by introducing a secondary character (Greg Kinnear) I could already tell that Ghost Town was going to have a little fun with the romantic comedy formula. Gervais and Kinnear work off each other well and there are plenty of moments involving Kinnear’s character playfully bugging Gervais’s character. All of the ups and downs are present but they do not happen exactly when you would expect them to. After the movie was over I honestly had very little to complain about because I was thoroughly entertained by Ghost Town.

What Didn’t Work For Me

Not really a huge issue but the third act takes a bit too long end.

Should You Watch This Movie?

Ghost Town is a great choice for anyone looking to watch a good romantic comedy.
