What I Liked About This Movie
When I was looking for a light-weight movie to watch one day I saw a caption from a reviewer about Outlander and I had to see it. The reviewer claimed it was the greatest movie ever. Being the skeptic I am I sort of guessed I would not agree with that person. What I didn’t expect however was an action movie with some really incredible special effects that should have got a wider theater release. Jesus even plays the main character, I mean, James Caviezel the actor who played Jesus in Passion of the Christ plays the lead.

Since this is a monster movie the creature has to be cool in order for the movie to work in any capacity and the creature is definitely interesting. Anytime it is on screen the movie kicks ass. Setting the movie in the Viking era was a good idea. The man is from an advanced civilization since and is stuck with simple weapons which seems more fitting given that the creature he is fighting looks like it would fit perfectly in that era. It adapts and so must he.
What Didn’t Work For Me
Outlander feels like a mish-mash of moments from all the really good fantasy/action movies you have ever seen. You can telegraph all of the emotional scenes you are going to see from the outset. You will just be waiting for the sweet looking dragon to appear again. Even the addition of a sub-plot with an orphan child probably won’t garner much care from you. The only other thing that felt off was some weird editing towards the end that was unexpected because up to that point there was nothing wrong with it.
Should You Watch This Movie?
I had a lot more fun watching it then I thought I would. If you rented it you would not be disappointed in the least.
