Return of the Living Dead Review

Two employees at a medical supply warehouse accidentally release a toxic gas that brings dead people back to life.

Who is the Audience for This Movie?

Fans of horror comedies.

What I Liked About This Movie

The Return of the Living Dead at no point takes itself seriously. From the get-go it knows that it is trying to be both funny and jam packed with zombie mayhem. At the beginning of the movie there is a short lead up that is hilariously dumb. When the 80’s music kicks in and the title card comes up you know you’re in for a good time. Much of the movies running time is spent breaking the mold Night of the Living Dead set for zombie movies. For Example: In most zombie movies you go for the brain in order to kill the zombies but in this movie the only way to kill them is to disintegrate them (preferably with fire).

Impressively the movie handles both comedy and horror well. There are some really tense moments in The Return of the Living Dead. I think the reason its horror aspect manages to not be overshadowed is because the makeup effects are fantastic (see picture above). There are a wide variety of zombies that all sport a different aesthetic look. My favorite part of the movie has to be the death obsessed chick getting killed exactly how she fantasized she would. When it happens she is not as into it as she said she was.

What Didn’t Work For Me

Most of the bad acting comes off as funny but some of it is terrible.

Should You Watch This Movie?

Definitely.
