Friday Movie Review

Two friends (Ice Cube, Chris Tucker) hang out on their porch on a Friday afternoon. Somehow they still manage to find a way to get into trouble.

Who is the Audience for This Movie?

Fans of stoner comedies.

What I Liked About This Movie

As a rap fan when I was younger I had to watch every movie that had Ice Cube in it surprisingly though his first attempt at a comedy was really good. I always remember liking it after revisiting it recently I still find it highly enjoyable. Cube and Tucker seem like a complete mismatch at all times because they are. Tucker is both loud and obnoxious while Cube is incredibly laid back. You can tell Tucker only takes jokes so far because he doesn’t want Cube’s character to actually get mad at him. It is admirable that Cube was able to play such a laid back character because his illustrious career as a rapper was/is owed almost fully to his swagger.

Beyond the gluttony of colorful characters (there are quite a few) Friday’s structure is what makes it most effective. The entire movie is paced like the perfect day of chilling out and it feels incredibly comfortable with itself. Oh yah, it also is very funny.

What Didn’t Work For Me

Littered throughout the movie are some low brow slapstick jokes that are not nearly as funny as some of the satirical comedy.

Should You Watch This Movie?

Definitely, I highly recommend you watch it with a few friends.
