Trailer Park Boys: Countdown to Liquor Day (Review)

Ricky, Julian, and Bubbles are released from prison (again) and upon their return they find out the Sunnyvale trailer park has been destroyed.

Who is the Audience for This Movie?

Fans of the Trailer Park Boys TV Show.

What I Liked About This Movie

Countdown to Liquor Day is hella greasy. Considering all that transpired in six seasons of the show that is a compliment. It is straight up Canadian redneck humor and for TPB newbie’s I am going to go out on a limb and say you have never seen a movie like this before. Fans of the show will be happy to hear there are plenty of quotable lines from nearly every character. I should warn you though if you have not seen the show before some of the jokes may not be as funny to you. Even with that said I have only seen a handful of episodes and I still laughed my ass off.

Speaking of fans, if you are one you should be pleased with how they wrap up all the main characters fates and sneak small details into scenes that would be noticed by non-fans. It has been said that this movie is essentially the finale to the show and with an interesting conclusion that neatly wraps everything up it is could very well be. While it doesn’t look like a glossy high budget movie I found its use of low resolution security footage for numerous scenes very fitting.

What Didn’t Work For Me

There are waaaaay too many sentimental scenes set to sappy music. I know they need to send off the characters right but mimicking the emotional sentimentality you find in most Hollywood movies was a lame decision. That aspect runs right into my next point; the antics of The Trailer Park Boys are better suited for the TV format. You can tell they are stretching the plot at points and attempting to keep the perfect structure they set for the show together.

Should You Watch This Movie?

Countdown to Liquor Day is the type of movie you watch while having some drinks with a few friends. Mainly because it will end up making you want to have a few extra.
