Tremors Review

A group of small town folks (Kevin Bacon, Fred Ward, Reba McEntire) are forced to fight prehistoric underground creatures.

Who is the Audience for This Movie?

Fans of non-serious horror movies.

What I Liked About This Movie

First and foremost, Tremors utilizes monsters that to the best of my knowledge has never been utilized in a movie before. The good thing about using something that has not been overdone yet is that it feels really fresh. There choice to have the creatures not fully shown till later in the movie keeps the tension high. Even after the reveal they are mostly hidden underground and it leads the movie in numerous plot directions you aren’t expecting.

To keep the movie entertaining during the breaks in action the sole purpose of the secondary characters is to be corny joke deliverers. It is obvious the purpose was to keep the movie as light as possible and to get the characters into the action as quick as they could. There are numerous encounters with the creatures and they all take place at different locations. Not keeping the movie locked down to the one setting definitely allowed them to show off the beautiful desert area the movie is set in.

What Didn’t Work For Me

My only major gripe is the tagged on love element. To me it didn’t feel like it served any purpose and was only included because they felt the need to mix the love interest horror cliché into the plot.

Should You Watch This Movie?

I got a kick out of Tremors and I can definitely see myself watching it again sometime.
