What I Liked About This Movie

Most movies that center on the birth of a couples first child tend to be slapstick style comedies or overly sappy. Away We Go resides in the middle of that spectrum and takes a realist approach to the situation the worrisome couple is in. There are quite a few moments of deadpan comedy but the real purpose of the movie is to see the motions a couple unhappy with their current lives go through before there life is changed forever. It was very interesting.

What Didn’t Work For Me

Away We Go is an incredibly somber affair.

Away We Go Photo

The movie is split into sections with the couple going to different cities to see if they are to their liking. In each city they meet with people they are either related to or were friends with at one point in there lives. Each section ends on a sad tone with only small lessons learned. By the end I was pretty bummed out and their journey ends on a sweet but semi-downer tone. It felt like the movies purpose was not fulfilled.

Should You Watch This Movie?

Maybe, just don’t expect to be very happy after it’s over.
