What I Liked About This Movie

There is some solid action in it and Wolverine is my second favorite comic book character.

What Didn’t Work For Me

I’m not sure an origin story was necessary for Wolverine taking all of the mystery out his past makes him much less of a bad ass. I would have loved it if they followed his story before meeting up with the X-men but left some mystery to his character. The entire love interest plot makes him a lot more sympathetic but that’s not why people like Wolverine. He is a bitter, unstable, and animalistic person who has claws that can cut through anything not a 200 year old (give or take a few years) man with a broken heart. To make matters worse it doesn’t fully coincide with some of the information about his past that was presented in the three X-men movies.

There are other problems with the movie too. A multitude of characters from the X-men universe have small cameo like roles and the characters fans have been waiting to see on screen since the first movie was released are not nearly as cool as they have been in other mediums. When a movie gets a big budget the special effects better look good for the most part they look bad in this movie but Wolverines claws looked beyond terrible. I had to pause the movie to make sure it wasn’t just me being really picky they really look hideous. Lastly, I have always wanted to see a live action movie in which Wolverine just goes crazy he is the most violent of the X-men and it would be fitting for his character. Unfortunately, since it was clearly made for a PG-13 audience everything is toned down; people barely even bleed. Hell I get a paper cut and see more blood then people after they get swiped at by Wolverine.

Should You Watch This Movie?

If you’re a comic book movie fan you will eventually see Wolverine you’ve been warned though it is terribly disappointing.
