Zombieland Review

A group of people (Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin) try to survive in a world that has been overrun by zombies.

Who is the Audience for This Movie?

Fans of zombie movies.

What I Liked About This Movie

Zombieland is my kind of horror movie. It’s funny, has its tense moments and the characters do some of the things I would do if I was in their shoes.

Zombielan Photo

There are plenty of moments where killing zombies is done simply for entertainment which is always entertaining. Woody Harrelson is responsible for most of them and also happens to be the most entertaining thing about the movie. He has played the obnoxious and standoffish character many times before so it’s no surprise that he plays the archetype well. Without him this movie would not be as consistently funny as it is. The makers of the movie didn’t just rest on one strong character though all of the characters get developed solidly and there is a lot of time spent on ensuring you actually care about them. The extra spent time ends up leaving less time for zombie killing and the ending is left wide open. They better make a sequel; the character development is out of the way now so they can go balls. I would bet money that Zombieland 2 would be infinitely better then the first one.

What Didn’t Work For Me

Around ¾ of the way through the movie there is a lengthy cameo from a high profile celebrity. There are some funny bits but the movie spends a bunch of time during that period going out of its way to fill in as many pop culture jokes as it can. It really kills the movies momentum. Besides that I found the Zombieland rules the main character has are underutilized. He says in passing that he has a bunch of them yet only a few of them are mentioned.

Should You Watch This Movie?

Yes, but if there is no sequel this movie will not be held in a high regard years from now.
