Who is the Audience for This Movie?
Fans of heart warming animated movies.
What I Liked About This Movie
Although I may change my mind in the future, in my opinion Pinocchio has the best opening sequence of any animated movie. The main character is not introduced for a lengthy period of time instead you have the story kick started by one of my favorite movie characters, Jiminy Cricket. Watching him walk through the toy shop and interact with all of the colorful hand crafted clocks and toys it is interesting from a visual standpoint and of course there is also a welcome comedic element to his antics. I love the 50’s style slapstick humor he exudes it fits perfectly with his very gentlemanly voice. To Jiminy cricket everything is quite large when the animation jumps back forth from his scale to human scale it’s almost seamless and considering Pinocchio was made in 1940 it is very impressive.

Ooops I started rambling…maybe I should talk about the rest of the movie. Pinocchio acts like any young boy would and throughout the movie is drawn in by nefarious characters that wish only to use him for their own twisted desires. I know that may sound strange but that’s because it is. Pinocchio ventures into a weird zone that not many animated movies dare to go. If you were to break down its themes you may even think twice about showing it to your kids. The movies pace is lightning fast and I remember when I was younger I would watch it at least twice every time I put it in the VCR.
What Didn’t Work For Me
Pinocchio has some incredibly dark imagery that even to this day may scare younger children I was fascinated by it when I was younger but then again I am a little strange.
Should You Watch This Movie?
If you haven’t seen Pinocchio you should see it as soon as you can.
