What I Liked About This Movie
The acting from Downey and Law is very playful they have great chemistry and you can tell both of them had fun with their roles.
What Didn’t Work For Me
Early into the movie I had a bad feeling I was not going to enjoy Sherlock Holmes. Guy Richie is best known for directing British style gangster movies and both his editing and dialogue delivery style do not fit the subject matter. Another reason he was not the right choice is character development. In the majority of his movies he had to handle larger casts so little development had to go into each character. In Sherlock Holmes the two main characters are never fully developed. Everything about their relationship and intentions has to be assumed because at no point is the pairs past explained. Sure you get that they are good friends but that isn’t enough. For example the following questions in particular bothered me: why are Holmes and Watson held in such high regard? What kind of relationship did they have before Watson decided to finally find a woman?

I don’t remember any story about Sherlock Holmes that pegs him as a master of hand to hand combat. At numerous points in the movie it felt like I was watching Batman not a mystery movie and couple with the overabundance of CGI it just felt out of place. More importantly, the ending is painfully obvious. Sherlock Holmes is supposed to be really smart but the other people in movie must be really dumb.
Should You Watch This Movie?
It really isn’t worth wasting your time on.
