The Box Review

A young couple are (Cameron Diaz, James Marsden) given the choice to push a button for a million dollars with the catch being that someone they do not know will die.

Who is the Audience for This Movie?

What I Liked About This Movie

The Box was everything I didn’t expect it to be. From what I saw from trailers and teasers it seemed to be strictly about a couple making a grave decision with big ramifications but when they finally make their decision whether to push the button or not the movie moves into a completely different direction that you will either embrace or scoff at. While I wasn’t big on the acting I have to say Alan Arkin’s mysterious character with ¼ of face is effectively eerie.

During the movie you get little clues about the deeper repercussions of what you are shown but a lot ends up staying unexplained and leaves the movie wide open to dissect on repeat viewings. This is not a movie with straight forward storytelling its purpose is to make you question what is beyond what is shown. The ending is quite chilling.

What Didn’t Work For Me

I wasn’t sold on the acting by the two leads. Not once did it feel like they had any real connection to each other when they were both on screen. I would also like to know why the hell Diaz decided to use the awful accent she uses throughout the whole movie I could not take her character seriously whenever she was talking.

Should You Watch This Movie?

It’s not for everyone you will either dig it or hate it. If you liked Donnie Darko you will really like this movie.
