What I Liked About This Movie

The Informant! is a great melding off Steven Soderbergh’s strengths as a director. He has made strong dramas (Solaris, Traffic) and light-hearted movies (Oceans Eleven, Out of Sight) in the past but he has never tried to stitch the styles together before. The result is a movie with plenty of heart and comedy that ends up being appealing on numerous levels.

From the get go my favorite aspect of this movie was the inner voice style voice-overs Matt Damon’s character spouts out at random times. For Example: “I don’t like wool on skin. Not even that merino wool they have at Marshall Field in Chicago. Ginger likes it because it’s formfitting, but she likes avocados. And who wants that texture in their mouth?”. Matt Damon looks as though he is uncomfortable at all times and for the sake of the character it works in his favor especially taking into account the big reveal later in the movie. Up until the mid point The Informant! is a light-hearted comedy but a missing piece to the main character is revealed and the movie turns into an all out drama. The switch up although unexpected feels like a perfect fit after having observed the character for a considerable chunk of the movie.

What Didn’t Work For Me

Nothing worth complaining about.
