Good Hair Review

Chris Rock takes a deeper look into the African-American hair industry.

Who is the Audience for This Movie?

This movie is a great general audience style documentary.

What I Liked About This Movie

Chris Rock has always been a solid comedian when it came to Hollywood movie though he has never really had a praise worthy role (Down to Earth was close even though the movie was just average). After finishing Good Hair I couldn’t help but keep thinking how strong he is as a narrator and an on-camera personality. He fuses his off collar comedy with perfect questions. He keeps the movie entertaining throughout.

Good Hair Photo

Good Hair was structured very smartly it starts a little light and foreshadows what’s to come. In the middle it goes very in depth with Rock even going to India to find out where the hair for weaves comes from and ends fittingly showy. It’s obvious it was made to be a crowd pleaser and it succeeds fully. My favorite part has to be Ice T and funny joke that closes the movie out.

What Didn’t Work For Me

By the end of the movie it still doesn’t really answer the question or take a side on what hair does for women. Being a male who could care less about hair a little more insight would have been nice.

Should You Watch This Movie?

I kind of expected it to be poorly put together but its actually a strong documentary.
