The Descent: Part 2 Review

After the events of The Descent a rescue team is sent in to find the girls who disappeared. I will not say anything more then that I am not a fan of spoiling movies.

Who is the Audience for This Movie?

People who like monster movies.

What I Liked About This Movie

Much like the first movie there are plenty of tense claustrophobic moments and the cinematography is always on point.

What Didn’t Work For Me

From the start my skepticism was incredibly high mainly because the movies starting point is the much tamer U.S. alternate ending not the original British ending which concluded very realistically. Pretty much after I realized the direction it was going in I started to tune out. The Descent 2 tears down everything good about original. The lead up in the original was intense the monsters don’t even show up for almost an hour and your already on the edge of your seat. In the second movie the lead up is too talky, unrealistic and not nearly as tense.

The Descent: Part 2 Photo

When the monsters force their way into the movie in the original its in your face and there are plenty of memorable scenes. In the sequel those awesome scenes are re-treaded but they are not as cool the second time around. Also the rescue team members (victims) don’t garner the same emotional attachment as the group of girls from the first I was neither shocked nor surprised when any character met their fate.

What really ruined it for me though was a major plot twist that anyone who saw the first will cringe over. To make matters worse the ending makes even less sense.

Should You Watch This Movie?

If you have not seen the original go watch that if you have go watch it again and forget this movie exists.
