Who is the Audience for This Movie?

Fans of the Batman cartoons.

What I Liked About This Movie

I absolutely loved the Batman cartoon from the 90’s; in fact it’s in my top 5 shows of all time. With that said I always watch new Batman animated movies and Under the Red Hood is definitely one of the better ones. What caught my eye right away is how much more graphically violent it is then most cartoons. It’s always nice to watch a cartoon that is targeted for an older demographic.

Batman: Under the Red Hood Photo

To make it stick out more Batman is aged and it shows in his personality and ability to do his crime fighting. There are small plot reveals throughout which keep it interesting and of course there is plenty of action and explosions. I found myself really digging this movie because it takes routes I have not seen in a Batman cartoon and being a huge Batman geek it was a great surprise.

What Didn’t Work For Me

From the start its too obvious who the person hiding behind the guise of the red mask is. A little more mystery would have given the reveal moment a bigger payoff. John Di Maggio (voice of Bender on Futurama) is a great voice actor but his interpretation of the Joker is missing the uniqueness that others have brought to the character.

Should You Watch This Movie?

If you grew up watching the Batman cartoons in the 90’s you will really like this movie.
