Hot Tub Time Machine Review

After a drunken night in a hot tub a group of friends (John Cusack, Clark Duke, Craig Robinson, Rob Corddry) get sent back to the 80’s.

Who is the Audience for This Movie?

People who like time travel movies.

What I Liked About This Movie

Hot Tub Time Machine has a stacked cast but Rob Corddry is easily the funniest person in this movie. You could say he was given more to work with but he does own his role. Beyond that I really like what they did with the ending. I wouldn’t want to ruin it but you won’t see it coming at all.

What Didn’t Work For Me

A great comedy to me has to have at least 3 or 4 big laugh out loud moments. In my opinion this movie didn’t even have one. What surprised me the most was John Cusak not being funny he has been in some great comedies but he was way off his game in this one. I guess after I realized I wasn’t going to laugh much I started to dissect what was actually going on and upon reflection I feel the writing was terrible.

The majority of the laughs they try to garner are from pop culture references. I wish they would have done more with the pop culture stuff instead of just inserting it at random for quick laughs. The 80’s setting is ripe for joke fodder they just lazily utilized it.

Should You Watch This Movie?

Just because of its name most people will watch Hot Tub Time Machine but to be honest I found it incredibly disappointing.
