Iron Man 2 Review

Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) faces off against a new enemy (Mickey Rourke) who uses the same technology he does but his goal is to destroy Stark not save the world.

Who is the Audience for This Movie?

Fans of comic book character movies.

What I Liked About This Movie

Robert Downey Jr. seems to have charisma to spare whenever he is on screen. He is one of the few actors who looks like he is always having fun with every non-dramatic role he is given. Iron Man had strong visuals and Iron Man 2 ups the ante with some incredibly exaggerated (in a good way) action scenes.

What Didn’t Work For Me

My only gripe about the original Iron Man was that it had to carry the burden of setting up the characters origin. Free from that I thought Iron Man 2 had a bunch of opportunity to improve upon its stellar action and witty humor. Unfortunately with no constraints it seems the writers had no clue how to write a cohesive story so instead they jumbled a mess of story threads together. After a while I stopped caring about the story completely the bad guy (whiplash) had very little motivation and even less screen time devoted to making the audience aware of his deep seeded hate for Iron Man.

Why do new age directors think there Hitchcock? Having yourself in front of the camera in your own movie should be done cleverly and quickly Jon Favreau is on screen way to often considering his character adds almost nothing to the movie. He is not the only problem with the acting though after seeing how much the audiences loved Downey’s free wheeling attitude and pension for one liners every character seems to talk like he does with less then desirable results. It’s flat out annoying.

Should You Watch This Movie?

Unless you’re a completist and must see every comic book character movie you don’t need to see this movie.
