A high school kid (Aaron Johnson) decides he wants to be a superhero only to find out its not as easy as it seems in comic books. Even so through his exploits he ends up teaming up with other superheroes (Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Chloe Moretz, Nicolas Cage) to fight crime.
Who is the Audience for This Movie?
Fans of comic book/graphic novel character movies.
What I Liked About This Movie
Kick-Ass doesn’t play. Just saying the violence on display is cool would be doing a disservice to the incredibly choreographed and stylish ownage that is dealt throughout Kick-Ass. The movie starts like most superhero movies but from the first time Kick-Ass dons his costume you’re in for a huge surprise every time you see anyone in costume on screen fighting.

No review of Kick-Ass would be proper without talking a bit about Hit-Girl and Big Daddy. After confronting some bad guys Kick-Ass runs into some trouble and is saved by them. They are a father/daughter duo who fight crime. That alone is a cool concept but add in the fact that Big Daddy actively teaches his daughter how to kill bad guys and rewards her for doing so is something else. Nicholas Cage is solid as usual as Big Daddy his sidekick Hit-Girl steals every scene from everyone else in this movie though. She swears, she’s funny, and best of all she absolutely obliterates anything in her path. The first time you see her in action its shocking.
Kick-Ass is highly Grounded in reality but to keep it from being too dark for its own good there are some unrealistic blips that lead to pleasant surprises.
What Didn’t Work For Me
Only one thing stuck with me after the movie was over. It might just be me but I found Kick-Ass to be the least interesting superhero in this movie yet he is the main character
Should You Watch This Movie?
Everyone I have talked to who has seen this movie (even those who don’t really watch superhero movies) were blown away by Kick-Ass; I was as well.
