Fubar 2 Review

Terry and Dean (David Lawrence & Paul Spence) get evicted and head north to Fort McMurray to get jobs.

Who is the Audience for This Movie?

Fans of the first Fubar movie and People who live in Alberta.

What I Liked About This Movie

Many of the locations are very familiar to me and it’s a Canadian movie sequel (does not happen often) so I had to give it a shot. The movie kicks off very strongly in typical redneck Albertan fashion and anyone who loved the first movie will thoroughly enjoy the first bit of the movie.

What Didn’t Work For Me

Before writing this review I watched the movie twice just to make sure my expectations didn’t get in the way of how I felt about the movie.

Fubar 2 Photo

It is very sad to say but Fubar 2 blows its funny load in one shot at the beginning and then slowly turns into a dramatic friendship tale. It sets you up to expect a bunch of hilarity to ensue then slaps you in the face with sad reality. I get that they wanted to show the other side to the oil industry in Alberta and as a drama Fubar 2 is very good but it is far too depressing and I think anyone who saw the first one will find that they aren’t as fond of the characters this time around. On top of that it utilizes the documentary style but everything felt way too planned and perfect which negated the purpose of shooting it in that style.

Should You Watch This Movie?

If you saw the first one you kind of have to see Fubar 2 but I really felt that while effective its drastic shift in tone from the first movie really hurt it.
